Avid Alums Program—Fun Programming for Goodtimes Alumni
Are you currently a young adult age 18–35 who has been a past participant of any Goodtimes camp, retreat, or program in your youth? If yes, then this alumni program is for you!
avid alums program mission
The Avid Alums Program creates joyful and meaningful spaces for Goodtimes alums who, as adults, want to continue to grow and connect with a community of fellow patients, survivors, siblings, and bereaved siblings impacted by pediatric cancer.
Helps alum who have recently aged out of Goodtimes programming to make that transition.
Creates an inclusive avenue for all alums to remain a part of the Goodtimes community:
Individuals who, due to medical or social/developmental limitations, are unable to be hired as a Goodtimes volunteer.
Individuals who are already a Goodtimes volunteer or are capable of being one.
Gives participants no-cost opportunities to connect with people going through similar current and lasting impacts of childhood cancer.
Continuous community building.
Extends hope, love, and joy into adulthood.
eligibility
Participants should meet the following eligibility criteria:
Have been a past participant of any Goodtimes Project-run camp, retreat, or program or attended Camp Goodtimes or Kayak Camp at anytime since their inception.
Aged 18–35
Dependent on program-specific timing and particulars, special invitations may be extended to 17-year-olds who will turn 18 prior to the next session of Camp Goodtimes as a means of giving them added visibility to and inclusion as future members of the Avid Alums Program.
As the program grows and develops over time, and the number of alums increases, age-specific programming (or new programs) may be designed to meet particular needs and wants; ex. ages 18-25, 26-35, 36+.
Is a pediatric cancer patient, survivor, sibling, or bereaved sibling.
Can live/go to school in any state but are responsible for their own transportation.
Can continue to be a Goodtimes volunteer or be hired as one in the future while participating in this program.
sample programming
As a new program in 2025, the development of activities will be highly informed by alums themselves who submit the interest form/survey to convey their interests. Examples of programming could include: attending sporting events, movie/theater/arts experiences, recurring coffee and conversation meetups, outdoor activities, learning/discussion sessions, overnight retreats, and more.
Our kickoff event will be a weekend retreat planned for May 17-18, 2025 on Vashon Island. The vision for the retreat is: a sleepover weekend for up to 40 people designed for fun and connection, and as a focus group to brainstorm future Avid Alums activities. More information to come once retreat registration opens later this winter/spring.
Most meetups, outings, retreats, etc. will take place in or around the Seattle/Tacoma area.
how to participate
We’re building this alumni community, and associated programming, from the ground up beginning in 2025. In order to include qualified participants in future Avid Alums communications and invitations, we need contact information and perspectives on the type, duration, and timing of future meetups and activities.
Submit the interest form/survey to make your interest known. *There is an opportunity for either a parent or the alum themselves to complete the form.
Program guidelines & Expectations for Participants
Programming for adult participants requires a shared understanding of program expectations for participation. Goodtimes wants to be transparent about those guidelines, leading to a positive experience for all involved.
Review Avid Alums program guidelines.
We need to hear from you to build our database of participants and to get information into your hands.
Use the button above to fill out an interest form and to complete a survey about the types of meetups and programming you’d be most interested in attending.
